Winner of The Jury Prize at Cannes, Le Otto Montagne (The Eight Mountains) is a story of friendship set in the majestic Italian Alps. A great tale matched by cinematography that is truly breathtaking. A boy from the city befriends the only boy in an Alpine village, and the mountains become their personal realm. Their life journeys divide them, but their friendship resumes after years apart when they unite to build a mountainside cottage. Filmed on glaciers in Italy and the Himalayas building a real house in the snowline anchors the film in authenticity. Luca Marinelli (Pietro) and Alessandro Borghi (Bruno) confirm why they are their generation's most important actors.
Based on the Award-winning novel by Paolo Cognetti, it is a film that would be enjoyed by children or critics. When this film was over, I knew I had experienced something beautiful.
DIrected by Felix Van Groningen, Charlotte Vandermeersch
Starring Luca Marinelli, Alessandro Borghi
Screening in Italian with English subtitles.
