The original 1983 tribute to the science fiction/alien invasion films of the 1950's, STRANGE INVADERS will screen on Wednesday 18 March as Part of The Vic Fun Flashbacks presented by Mid Life Movie Crisis.
In 1958 alien invaders abduct the residents of Centreville, Illinois, usurping the townspeople's bodies as their earthbound manifestations. Decades later, on a family visit to Centreville, New Yorker Margaret Newman (Diana Scarwid) mysteriously goes missing. Margaret's ex-husband, professor Charles Bigelow (Paul Le Mat), suspects there is more afoot than mere foul play, and he partners with intrepid tabloid reporter Betty Walker (Nancy Allen) to investigate.
Directed by Michael Laughlin, producer of Two-Lane Blacktop, STRANGE INVADERS was made in the US and Canada between his only other two directorial efforts - both of which were lensed in New Zealand (1981's DEAD KIDS and the 1984 Jodie Foster-John Lithgow gothic drama MESMERIZED). The film Stars Paul Le Mat (American Graffiti), Nancy Allen (Robocop), Diana Scarwid (Mommie Dearest), Michael Lerner (Barton Fink), Louise Fletcher (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest), Fiona Lewis (The Fury, Dead Kids), Wallace Shawn (My Dinner with Andre) and June Lockhart (TV's Lost in Space, Troll). The screenplay was written by Dead Kids collaborators Laughlin and future Academy Award Winner Bill Condon (Gods and Monsters).
