The original 1980's mystery thriller Blow Out will be screening at The Vic on Monday 26 August as part of The Vic Fun Flashbacks series presented by Mid Life Movie Crisis!
Brian De Palma's 1981 Philadelphia-set conspiracy thriller: While taping sound effects at night for a low-budget horror film, Jack (John Travolta) records a would-be accident as a car careens into a nearby river. Jack manages to save Sally (Nancy Allen) from the wreck but the driver, presidential-race favourite Governor McRyan, is killed. Analysing his tape, Jack is convinced that the car's tyre was shot out and is determined to prove this. The powers that be conspire to block his attempts - stating that the accident was caused by a blow out and denying Sally's presence in order to save the late Governor's reputation. Jack's investigations lead him and Sally into dangerous territory as the assassin, Burke (John Lithgow), systematically attempts to erase all evidence of the crime - namely Jack's recording and key witness Sally.
